Back injuries result from damage, wear, or trauma to the bones, muscles, or other tissues of the back. Common back injuries include sprains and strains, herniated disks, and fractured vertebrae. The lumbar is often the site of back pain. The area is susceptible because of its flexibility and the amount of body weight it regularly bears. It is estimated that low-back pain may affect as much as 50 to 70 percent of the general population in the United States. Low-back pain is often the result of incorrect lifting methods and posture. Repetitive lifting, bending, and twisting motions of the torso affect both the degree of severity and frequency of low-back pain. In addition, low-back pain may also be the result of bad lifting habits. Sedentary lifestyles most often lead to weak abdominal muscles and hamstrings. This causes the stronger muscles which have remained strong to pull the body away from its optimal anatomical form. The imbalanced muscles cause people to continue to perform these repetitive actions. This results in misplaced force application within the spine, often resulting in hemorrhage of disks within the spinal column. Back injuries and liftingFrom Wikipedia under the

If you were in a car accident, is there an injury to your back that can give you life long pain? Asked by L - Sun Mar 29 16:33:39 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes, there are several types. You could get a herniated disc, which can be sometimes fixed with physical therapy, or anti-inflammatory drugs, but usually requires surgery. In many cases, nerve damage from the disc putting pressure on spinal nerves, can be permanent. People can feel tingling/numbness in their feet or legs even after the disc has been fixed surgically. I imagine you could also crush the spinal column/nerves in several ways, which could lead to chronic pain. Answered by Christine - Sun Mar 29 16:39:16 2009 What happens when you have a work mans comp claim for a back injury and the doctor and layers aren't helping Q. I know someone with a back injury where they can barely walk and are at the therapist 2xs a week for their back but no one wants to help him out. hes working consturction and hes still has to work because he has a family to raise and yet workmans comp. won't help with finances or anything so he has to keep working . I am basicaly asking for advice on what he should do? Asked by kimphin007 - Tue Dec 19 17:20:30 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. well first of all get him to change doctors and get evidence on how it happened. dont let him think it was his fault. tell the manager how he got the injury and ask him if they can change his hours or pay him compo. he is entitled to it and should get it. ask him how it happened. write it down in a report. make a few copies of it and give one to the manager, the compo people and to the doctor. the doctor should be able to state that the injury was for the workplace. stand beside him and remember he is right. plus get the therapist to write a report to and present that to them. if they still wont do anything go over their heads. Answered by been there done that - Tue Dec 19 18:10:46 2006 Can a back injury lead to scoliosis?
Q. I injured my back in a soccer game about two years ago and recently my doctor told me I have symptoms of scoliosis. (I was shocked, my back appears to be fine, to me at least except for the usual lower back pain after strenuous physical activity. The only type of back problems I ever had were due to my injury. Is it possible that a back injury cn lead to scoliosis? Asked by J(: - Fri Oct 2 23:44:35 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes as that's how i got my scoliosis i injured my back at 12 damaging a few vertebra's so it made the spine curve in to an s shape, and scoliosis is just a medical word for curved spine and your spine can curve for many different reasons,i had to have surgery for mine and am still curved due to the damage my injury did, my consultant call it scoliosis even though it was an injury, that's because like i said scoliosis is just a medical word for curved spine, so it could have happened that way for you but you will need an x-ray to find out the cause of the scoliosis(curve).
