Where do I report a health & safety hazard at a recent puplic place I visited?
Q. I recently had a minor accident at a local Church Hall, but feel the reason is because the place has potential safety hazards. Where can I report this incident - not for my benefit but for the safety of others so health and safety can look into it?
Asked by Kiwi Angel - Tue Nov 24 11:18:25 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. if you are in Britain it would be the HSE ( health and safety executive) but if you are really concerned for others welfare why don't you report it to the church caretaker so he can resolve the problems before anyone else gets hurt... All public places like this should have accident books that are inspected by the organisations health and safety officer. The HSE also check these usually on an annual inspection

Q. What hygiene, first aid and health & safety do i need for a food shop selling cookies in the UK? And how much is it likly to cost for two people?

A. You might not need any formal qualifications but this might interfere with your rating (stars where I live), I just completed a food safety online course and it cost me and my husband 58 (this was for both) and took us less than two hours to complete. Ask your local council and they will help, ask for someone from the environmental office.

Are there any health & safety issues with serving fruit crumble cooked in a foil container to children?
Q. I have to cook for fifteen 7-10 year old girls and have been told that I cannot serve fruit crumble in a foil container for health & safety reasons. Obviously it would be preferable to cook and serve the food from a disposable foil container so I need to check if there could be a problem with this. Has anyone any advice please?
Asked by Tink - Mon Jul 30 09:52:06 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Can't imagine why this would be a problem - supermarkets sell their own crumbles frozen in tin foil trays and I am sure that if there were a health and safety problem with it we would have had 30 government advisers on the news telling us so. Good luck with the meal and the kids - I hope you are not doing this single handedly - then there might be a few health and safety issues - your health and their safety when you lose it!!!

A. I would ban people from opening envelopes for fear of them suffering a life threatening paper cut on their pinkies. Addition. This reminded me of an email: According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 50's, 60's, 70's and even early 80's probably shouldn't have survived, because: Our baby cots were covered with brightly coloured lead-based paint which was promptly chewed and licked. We had no child-proof lids on medicine bottles, or latches on doors or cabinets and it was fine to play with pots and pans. When we rode our bikes we wore no helmets, just flip-flops and fluorescent 'spokey dokey's' on our wheels As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags - riding in the… [cont.]

A. I find if you can make it "real" then people pay more attention to it. You could always come up with some situations and get them to think about what they would do? It is difficult because it is so important that you want them to remember it. You could also do a quiz or something like that? Good luck!!

Is there a regulation governing the location of a local FM radio transmitter mast/antenna for health & safety?
Q. Is there (i) a UK regulation and/or (ii) an EU regulation for the location of local radio broadcasters' transmitter masts/antennae regarding a minimum distance to human interface. The power intensity is much higher the closer you are to the antenna and there are health risks due to the electro and magnetic fields generated from this source. The broadcast frequency is 90.1 Mhz. Thanks for your help from a very concerned resident.
Asked by John W - Sat Jul 25 04:24:42 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm not sure about the UK, but in the US you need a transmission license from a government body to approve your FM channel and the frequency is allotted by that government body.

Whats the Health & Safety requirements for a new build site.?
Q. I'm building a new house on some land and I was wondering what sort of health & safety procedures are needed for the site. It mainly has subcontractors as well as two of our own staff on site.
Asked by LEON - Thu Feb 21 07:17:03 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This site should help. I know you need hard hats and secure fencing round the site and if you have a certain amount of people on site at anyone time you have to have toilet and tea making facility's, no smoking signs, keep out signs etc. The sub contractor should be willing to help you with this one as its their safety as well.

Is an extractor hood over an oven hob a Health & Safety requirement? If so, can I make do with a window fan?
Q. I'm doing a kitchen refurb for tenants, and I need to make sure I provide everything I should.
Asked by Owen O - Wed Aug 9 16:13:33 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No it is not a requirement, but as it is your property I'd go for installing one which is vented straight out the building to offset future repair bills as a build up of grease & moisture in a kitchen can be a costly thing to put right. Extractors are relatively cheap and it only requires knocking out one brick and a 4 external cover for the hole. Do it, your tenants will love you!

Look up anti-freeze in toothpaste and see where you go from there. Their function is to put out warnings, recall and investigate cases and to inspect products as worthy to be for public consumption. The FDA, USDA. Also, the CDC is one that is suppose to put out alerts on dangerous diseases and investigates them, studies and research. A. HUGE - Oil and gas companies are very HSE conscious, and place the highest effort into making sure that their systems are safe. This s a throwback to the days where huge insurance claims were levied on these companies for workplace injuries, and so to avoid future large lawsuits, they now place a huge amount of resources, including people, into their HSE programmes.
