What type of food causes light diarrhea?
Q. I've been getting some diarrhea (nothing too horrible, but not normal bowel movements) for the past week or so. I admit that i've been eating too much bread with cream cheese and bologne, but i didn't think that would cause diarrhea. No plums or dried fruits, which i now cause diarrhea. So what other foods could it be?

A. Normal amounts of cheese won't cause diarrhea, but if you are consuming excessive amounts of milk products (like cream cheese), than can very likely cause your diarrhea. Try cutting back and see if you still get loose bowels.

Q. I have to take Metformin because I have PCOS. I just started taking it for the first time once at dinner tonight. Now I have diarrhea. I know it's a side effect and all, but is there anyway I can prevent it? I have school on Monday and I don't know how to survive school without having to go to the bathroom a lot. How come I get diarrhea after I eat breakfast every morning?
Q. Every time I wake up for school I'm fine, but a few minutes after I eat breakfast(cereal, hot pockets,etc.) I get diarrhea. It's not really bad but I have to go and then I'm done and then I have go again. I'm a 15 year old girl and athletic if that has to do with anything. Why is applesauce good for diarrhea, even though apples and apple juice are laxatives?
Q. When I had diarrhea recently, the nurse told me that applesauce was helpful, but fruits (except banana) and fruit juices were to be avoided because of the laxative effect. And I know independently that apples and apple juice are both laxatives. What happens to make apple sauce not a laxative? It's just apple bits floating in apple sauce.

What does it mean when a cat has bloody diarrhea?

How to prevent diarrhea when you just ate something with dirty hands?
Q. I just put my dirty socks on and then I ate something without washing my hands first. I'm afraid I will catch diarrhea. How to prevent it?

A. You aren't in any danger. I shovel horse poo, wipe my hands on my pants and eat. Or work in the yard. Or any number of things that are 'dirty' and never get sick from it. Of course I wash my hands after I use the toilet and if I have access to a bathroom I wash my hands. But I'm middle aged and all my life I have eaten food on occasion with dirty filthy hands and it never gave me any kind of issue. I do not believe for a moment you will get diarrhea from touching socks.

Q. Generally, when I am about to get diarrhea, my stomach alerts me about 15 minutes before hand. I get the worst stomach ache and my stomach makes all kinds of weird noises and I have gas. Where I work, I do not have access to a bathroom at all times. I am cashiering and constantly surrounded by needy customers, and generally I can not get to the bathroom. Lately I have been able to get to the bathroom, but in the future--does anyone have any tips or tricks to stopping diarrhea while you feel it coming on?
