What type of food causes light diarrhea?
Q. I've been getting some diarrhea (nothing too horrible, but not normal bowel movements) for the past week or so. I admit that i've been eating too much bread with cream cheese and bologne, but i didn't think that would cause diarrhea. No plums or dried fruits, which i now cause diarrhea. So what other foods could it be?
Asked by julka323 - Thu Sep 13 04:39:46 2007 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Normal amounts of cheese won't cause diarrhea, but if you are consuming excessive amounts of milk products (like cream cheese), than can very likely cause your diarrhea. Try cutting back and see if you still get loose bowels.

How to prevent diarrhea from taking an antibiotic?
Q. I have to take Metformin because I have PCOS. I just started taking it for the first time once at dinner tonight. Now I have diarrhea. I know it's a side effect and all, but is there anyway I can prevent it? I have school on Monday and I don't know how to survive school without having to go to the bathroom a lot. Any suggestions on that? Also, how long does diarrhea usually last with Metformin? Thanks! Sorry! It's not an antibiotic, I was wrong! Lol.

A. I don't know how long it will last, but my daughters doctor recommended Florastor while she was taking medication. It is sold at most pharmacies and it is basically the good stuff found in yogurt that regulates your stomach. It really worked wonders for her and he cousins. Good luck!

How come I get diarrhea after I eat breakfast every morning?
Q. Every time I wake up for school I'm fine, but a few minutes after I eat breakfast(cereal, hot pockets, etc.) I get diarrhea. It's not really bad but I have to go and then I'm done and then I have go again. I'm a 15 year old girl and athletic if that has to do with anything. I normally take an anti-diarrheal pill afterwards just to make sure it doesn't come back during the day. But how can I eat breakfast and not get diarrhea?
Asked by Hello Moto - Mon Dec 1 20:05:28 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Usually chronic diarrhea is a result of either pancreatic insufficiency (you can take digestive enzymes to help but should see a doctor for treatment) or food allergy. The foods you mention as breakfast foods are all very high in wheat content, and gluten is one of the most common food allergies. So, you might try going gluten free for a while and see if that takes care of the problem.

What are some good treatments for antibiotic associated diarrhea?
Q. For antibiotic associated diarrhea, my doctor tells me that eating yogurt is good for getting a lot of the good bacteria that antibiotics kill and that bananas and apple juice are good for replacing the potassium lost from diarrhea. Are there any other remedies that are good for treating antibiotic associated diarrhea?

A. Pro biotics and acidophilous, as previous posters have said. Yogourt is good if you are getting one with active cultures and no added sugar. I would actually limit the consumption of juice as it delivers a lot of sugar to the system. Sugar will nourish the yeast that is free to grow while the antibiotics are killing the friendly bacteria that control it. Limit sugars, take plain psyllium hulls which are a fiber that will help regulate without artificial ingredients. Eating rice, oatmeal, drinking water are all good things. Also drinking kombucha or adding a tablespoon of braggs (or other brand) organic apple cider vinegar with the mother included can help replenish the healthy flora and electrolytes, Good luck I hope you feel… [cont.]

A. Diarrhea is like cough in the sense that it isn't actually a disease but a defense mechanism. We cough because there is something blocking our airway and we need to expell it. We have diarrhea because there is somthing we ate which needs to be expelled out of our digestive tract. Thus cough suppressants and anti-diarrheal medications which temporarily paralyze our intestines MUST be used with caution since they might actually make the situation worse by preventing the thing the needs to be expelled from being expelled. For the pediatric age group, what's important is for you to watch out for signs of dehydration. Its not the diarrhea which is dangerous but the dehyrdation. That is why children are never given loperamide. They're given… [cont.]

A. Diarrhea can come in a watery solid to a very watery liquid and is extreme depending on the amount of times he goes. I wouldn't be overly concerned unless the feces contains blood, worms or goes on for longer than two or three days. Feed him cooked rice until his stomach settles.

Why is applesauce good for diarrhea, even though apples and apple juice are laxatives?
Q. When I had diarrhea recently, the nurse told me that applesauce was helpful, but fruits (except banana) and fruit juices were to be avoided because of the laxative effect. And I know independently that apples and apple juice are both laxatives. What happens to make apple sauce not a laxative? It's just apple bits floating in apple sauce.

A. give him a lot of liquids the worst thing is for him to get dyhrad. give him apple juices the ped. light stuff even, you can even make him some ice cream with like juices in them in a ice dray. put a lot of a&d on hes butt so it wont get burn or bother which just make it worst for you and him and wait for the doctor reports. and do not give him milk because two things can happen he can either have a fever and make the milk go bad in hes stomach (told by doctors) or he can have more diarrhea..good luck

Asked by Laughter P - Tue Aug 5 18:04:41 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Diarrhea is very soft or watery feces. It usually has a very unpleasant smell. If your piggie is male, don't confuse the grease gland accumulation with diarrhea. The grease gland is at the end of the spine, where a tail would be located if he had one. If not cleaned regularly, this gland can accumulate a brown, greasy buildup. If it truly is diarrhea, you'll need to get your piggie to a vet quickly. Diarrhea can be fatal in guinea pigs.

A. Overview Acute diarrhea is a common clinical problem in veterinary practice. It is characterized by a sudden onset and short duration (three weeks or less) of watery or watery-mucoid diarrhea. Occasionally the fecal material is also overtly bloody. Diarrhea results from excessive water content in the feces and is an important sign of intestinal diseases in the cat. Diarrhea can affect your cat by causing extreme fluid loss, which leads to dehydration, electrolyte disturbances, and/or acid-base imbalances. General Causes # Dietary indiscretion (eating inappropriate food/material) # Infectious agents - bacterial, viral, fungal, protozoal, parasitic infections # Drugs and toxins # Intussusception (telescoping of the bowel on… [cont.]

How to prevent diarrhea when you just ate something with dirty hands?
Q. I just put my dirty socks on and then I ate something without washing my hands first. I'm afraid I will catch diarrhea. How to prevent it?
Asked by (Not Responding) - Sun May 2 22:15:22 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You aren't in any danger. I shovel horse poo, wipe my hands on my pants and eat. Or work in the yard. Or any number of things that are 'dirty' and never get sick from it. Of course I wash my hands after I use the toilet and if I have access to a bathroom I wash my hands. But I'm middle aged and all my life I have eaten food on occasion with dirty filthy hands and it never gave me any kind of issue. I do not believe for a moment you will get diarrhea from touching socks.

Diarrhea on the job? How to stop it when you feel it coming on?
Q. Generally, when I am about to get diarrhea, my stomach alerts me about 15 minutes before hand. I get the worst stomach ache and my stomach makes all kinds of weird noises and I have gas. Where I work, I do not have access to a bathroom at all times. I am cashiering and constantly surrounded by needy customers, and generally I can not get to the bathroom. Lately I have been able to get to the bathroom, but in the future--does anyone have any tips or tricks to stopping diarrhea while you feel it coming on?
