An employee may be defined as: "A person in the service of another under any contract of hire, express or implied, oral or written, where the employer has the power or right to control and direct the employee in the material details of how the work is to be performed." Black's Law Dictionary page 471 (5th ed. 1979). In a commercial setting, the employer conceives of a productive activity, generally with the intention of generating a profit, and the employee contributes labour to the enterprise, usually in return for payment of wages. Employment also exists in the public, non-profit and household sectors. To the extent that employment or the economic equivalent is not universal, unemployment exists. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Should an employee who picks up a company-related package on the way to work be allowed to claim mileage? Q. The boss asked him a few days ago to pick up the package (place is 1 mile from his house) so he picked it up on his way to the office the next morning. This pick up was part of his regular commute to the office. I found out about him reporting mileage and time because this morning he was bragging the company paying for his commute while showing everyone the mileage check as proof. I don't think it was right for him to report that mileage nor the time because it was a commute. IMO, mileage should not be paid unless the employee is running a company errand in their own personal vehicle AND they depart from/return to the office. Is what he did legal? Should I report him to the appropriate parties? How would your employer handle this? He… [cont.] Asked by MetalQueen - Fri Aug 31 09:42:36 2007 - - 17 Answers - 0 Comments A. He should not have reported mileage since it was part of his normal commute. I would not report him, let your boss deal with it. It may or may not ever get back to your boss, but I wouldn't worry about it. Your boss may have already addressed the issue, so I would leave it alone. Specifically Specs. This is a real question. I just picked up an application, but I'm not sure if I want to work at a liquor store. I was just trying to see what I was getting myself into, and to be honest I'm a bit too embarrassed and shy to go up and ask myself. Q. An employee will begin receiving dividends from the company. The company mentioned incorporating the employee. Can anybody explain the advantages of this process and disadvantages if there are any? Asked by mamajodieg - Fri Jan 11 12:04:49 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. It is in the employer's interest to provide incentives to employees to do a good job. One incentive is to let the employee share in the success of the company by giving him/her a dividend (presumably a share of the profits). An obvious disadvantage is that it costs the employer money. But, if it's done right, the employee would add much more value to the company (by working harder, improving efficiency, etc.) than the cost of the dividend payments.
