What are my chances of surviving a velociraptor attack?
Q. I know the uprising in imminent. With scientific cloning technology as it is today, it is only a matter of time before an experiment goes awry and velociraptors take over the earth. They know no fear, and they are after our flesh. So what are my chances of surviving this inevitable attack? How do I raptor-proof my home? Or is that even possible?
Asked by Space_Orange - Mon Oct 26 11:55:13 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 100% survival rate since they are an extinct species. As far as raptor-proofing your home the best thing would be to just lock yourself in as clearly you have nothing better to do with your time than ask stupid pointless questions online. That way the outside world does not have to deal with that stupidity face to face.

What are the chances of my puppy surviving parvo?
Q. I found out today that my 8 week old pomeranian has parvo. Luckily we caught it in the early stages, however she weighs less than 1lb, so I am concerned that her small size will decrease her chances of surviving. I knew something was wrong when she wouldn't eat or play yesterday, however this morning she was just as spunky as always and ate her full meal. What are the chances of her making it through this? Has anyone had a situation similar to this? She has seen the vet and will be hospitalized there until she either recovers or dies.

A. I have saved a Yorkie at 11 1/2 weeks and just under a pound and a half so I know it is possible. He had one injection at 8 weeks so he did get a lighter case and never stopped eating completely. We had the Parvaid and Vibactra Plus (unnecessary with a prescription antibiotic) overnighted and started on the emergency tea recipe, Pedialyte (unnecessary with iv fluids) and liver immediately. The puppy (the parvo puppy) had just gone to his new home and her roommate's dog was diagnosed within that week of parvo so we knew she had been exposed by direct contact. Both dogs made it. Here is the a link to the "enclyclopedia of parvo" that contains information on what I have talked about. Click on parvo self help guide. Click on products… [cont.]

What are the odds of my mollie fry surviving?
Q. I have 2 pregnant mollies in a very large aquarium with tiger barbs, Rosy barbs, other mollies, platties, angel fish and cardinals. All together probably around 30 fish. I have to leave a week ago to go to BC and I don't have another tank so I had to keep my pregnant mollies in that tank. I have the back and the sides of the aquarium heavily planted and there is LOTS of room to get away. What are the odds of any fry surviving?

A. odds are pretty good, but id get one of those floating plants they can hide in so they can come up and eat... cause some of those fish are little pigs, the babies might not get any food if they cant get to the top... what i do, is use my floating feeding plant... put some food in the water, then put the floating plant on top of it so they dont even have to come out from under it... also i have a filter gaurd for my fry... its basically a fine mesh bag that goes over the filter intake so the fry dont get sucked up... theyre only about a dollar and it works good PS- that 6x6 baby net the other person suggested are only good if you have like 2 or 3 babies... you need like a ton of those things if you have 2 pregnant mollies... they have… [cont.]

What are the chances of surviving in Afghanistan and Iraq?
Q. As a marine I will leave for basic in January chances are im going to deploy to the middle east for some fighting. What are the chances of surviving over in those combat zones, Im not too worried about it I just want to know some opinions. Lava Perro that is some useful information man thank you.
Asked by Jerry C - Tue May 11 14:51:36 2010 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Pretty high, actually. The stats are clear: You have a higher likelihood of dying on an American highway than you do in combat. In the Middle East wars, since 2001, we have had 4,249 people killed in action. The total deaths (because some weren't killed in action), is 5,449. In just ONE year on American highways, we lose an average of 43,000. See the links below to see for yourself.

What are my chances of surviving lung cancer with treatment?
Q. My doctor found a spot called a pulmonary nodule on my lung that may or may not be cancerous. Im worried that it is. What are my chances of surviving lung cancer? I am 19 years old and have been smoking for 5 years. I know emphazema runs in my family but im not too sure about lung cancer. Can someone please help me?
Asked by Kailah S - Thu Feb 25 01:08:56 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most pulmonary nodules are benign, meaning it isn't cancerous. However there is a chance it could be malignant. I suppose the good news (other than it moree liekly being benign) is that it has been found early. Lung cancer is hard to treat radically (intent to cure), however it can be done. Being young, you are a good candidate for surgery to remove it if it is in a good position. You would also be fit enough to have chemotherapy, so if it is malignant it can be treated. But don't worry yourself about it, don't keep thinking on how it could be cancerous. And I suggest quitting smoking, but it is a personal choice.

A. Please yourself, not everyone else. If there are people you cannot stand and don't see all year around, why should you be expected to be in their company at Christmas, make your excuses and stay away. I did this for the first time last year because I was sick to death of arguments and relatives who I do not get on with being forced upon me, every Christmas I can remember has been ruined in some way or another because of this. I made a stand and said that me and my son would be staying at home and having Christmas there, we did and it was brilliant. It didn't go down well but who cares, we had a nice time and that is the most important thing.

A. Hi honey...this is such a hard thing to go through...I know! I've been there! I lost a twin when I was around 5-6 weeks pregnant, however I went on to have a very healthy pregnancy and now have a beautiful 3 1/2 year old daughter. This is sometimes called "vanishing twin syndrome" and refers to the loss of a twin. Chances are pretty good that her second baby will stay put though. This occurs in about 1 out of every 8 pregnancies!! Most women just do not know they have miscarried. I wouldn't have known that I did if not for my ultrasound showing up traces of my second baby being there and the nurse telling me later on (no, they didn't tell me when I had the ultrasound...just said that "Something was there, but now it's not." Does anyone know statistics for the chances of surviving compared to dying in any war? Is there an average?
Q. Is there an averaged ratio that can be applied to the chances of an infantryman surviving as opposed to dying during the entire duration of a war while in active duty? I don't mean for one war I mean one for all? Perhaps some professor or some historian has come up with a rough average? For example something like: on average an infantryman in a war can expect a 1 in 300 chance that they are going to survive the entire duration of a war

Q. Did the surviving brother's marriage status even matter in this situation.
Asked by John L - Sun Apr 19 22:53:02 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No. The brother marries the widow and has kids with her in his brother's name. He is allowed to have several wives, and the children of each have their own status according to the mother's status. Two children was the requirement. When the widow had two children to claim the brother's inheritance, the surviving brother was then free to have the widow as a full wife and have kids through her for himself.

Does our knowledge of the solar system give us a better chance of surviving such a catastrophe?
Q. Geologists generally agree that the Earth has been hit many times by other objects in the solar system, and most predict that another object will again strike the Earth in the near future. Does our knowledge of the solar system give us a better chance of surviving such a catastrophe? How? What other benefit is it to know the solar system better? How can the position of sun, moon, and planets help us to know our position on Earth? How does knowing the conditions on other planets help us to appreciate Earth? Could there be life on other bodies in our solar system? Why or why not?
Asked by ker650 - Fri Apr 18 02:28:53 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I think you need to split this up into several different questions. And some of these don't have a definite answer. Obviously, knowing the orbits of various asteroids and comets makes it possible to predict when and if they will hit the earth, although it's hard to include everything that may affect their orbits. That doesn't really help us to survive a major strike, except that people could leave the area when it gets close enough to tell exactly where it will hit. I don't think that there are any serious predictions about collisions in the future (like in 2012), because that's too far out to calculate. We have found out enough about the other planets in the last few years to know that none of them can support earth-type life, and we… [cont.]

When one twin absorbs the other in the womb what happens to the surviving twin?
Q. Do they absorb the dead twins DNA? What happens to the surviving twin? Do they get health problems from it and how could the parents or that twin find out if ever?
Asked by With her head in the clouds - Sun May 30 05:42:01 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When one twin absorbs the other, 95% of the time they are identical and therefore the DNA doesn't pose a problem. Occassionally, the surviving twin will have a "tumor" or place on their body that they have a growth of what used to be their twin. But often there are no signs of the twin having been absorbed. And usually the twin doesn't absorb all of the other twin, the uterus absorbs a lot too. Generally the surviving twin is healthy and doesn't have any problems from absorbing her/his twin. The parents could find out because the twin had to have some medical procedures. But usually they wouldn't find out any issues with the absorbed twin unless symptoms of something showed up (like a tumor growing, inability to concieve and find a… [cont.]

What is the reason behind the instinct of reproducing and surviving on this planet? So why?
Q. What is the reason behind the instinct of reproducing and surviving on this planet? So why? What are we (read: all animals and humans including, so all living creatures) waiting for to happen? Because there has to be a caus for the fact that our instinct tells us we have to try everything we can to survive and to reproduce. Probably no one can give me the right answer (read: answer with scientific proof); but I hope some of you can think about some good answers and an explenation for your answer. Thank you in advance :) Jean

What chance does a fish that swallows the hook have of surviving?
Q. If a fish swallows the hook and as soon as I real him up he starts bleeding then I cut the line, does he have any chance of surviving. I heard the hook will disolve in his stomach
Asked by yo mama - Tue Jun 2 20:51:42 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yep, you heard right. If you want to release the fish with a deep swallowed hook, cut the line as close to the hook as you can and hope for the best. The fish may not survive, but ordinary wire hooks will dissolve and/or fall out with time. I don't know that anyone can say what the actual chance of survival is -- there are so many variables. Obviously the fish is going to be much better off with no hook in him, but I'd say, all other things being equal (you don't manhandle the fish, squish him, injure the gills, etc.), a fish with a hook in the throat has to have at least a 50-50 chance of pulling through. There are some new "technologies" out there that make removing hooks easier and they make hook removal easier on the fish. Even the… [cont.]

A. Well, for starters, Aeneas has to get to Italy to found what will become the Roman civilization, and he can't very well do that if he's dead. And that's basically why he survives, because Fate says so. I can't give you quotes (quotes from what, by the way? The Aeneid? If so, try Book 1, line 5, or Book 1, line 254), but that's the reason.

A. I'm a former Flight Attendant and I now fly a lot with my own three children. We usually travel between Europe and California about twice a year. Seven months is actually a good age to travel. It gets trickier when they can run! You may have him crawling all over the place but for the most part, you'll be able to keep up with him. I have never used any sort of medications to get my children to sleep on any of those flights. At that age especially, they do nodd off at some point of the journey, more if it's at night. I also think he's too young for a portable DVD player. I got one when my youngest was 3 years old. They are kind of heavy to cart around and could easily break. How much screen watching does he do?
